Trim tab

Trim tab

Back in the workshop! Once again, it seems like ages ago that I was last working on the Rocket. Hope to be able to get at least a little work done every week. Here I am getting setup to install the piano hinge on the trim tab portion. This includes match drilling the hinge as well as the additional strips of aluminum that provide extra strength/support to this section of the trim tab. (Another shout out to those cleo clamps! Keep finding uses for them and seem to always need one more!)

About this time, I started to realize something wasn’t lining up correctly between the trim tab and the elevator. I had drilled, deburred and riveted the trim tab hinge THEN noticed that I had not confirmed the servo bracket lined up with the servo rod coming from the trim motor in the elevator. Definitely NOT a joyous moment when I realized I had to backtrack and remove all of these rivets! Fast forward to me drilling a new hinge from Aircraft Spruce. This time with the servo rod installed, checked and double checked so I am back to where I was, finishing up the trim tab. All in all, not really a terrible goof but a setback for sure.

So here I am finishing up installing the new hinge… and I failed to take off my glasses for the picture. Secret is out, I am getting old and my eyes need prescription help for those near objects!
